Each year, hospitality, retail and food-service businesses dispose of up to 1.1 million tonnes of food, an estimated 2.4 billion meals.
All businesses within the food industry are under pressure to look at how they may reduce wastage and redistribute surplus foods to those within the community who would benefit.
Doing the right thing within society matters more than ever now. Consumers will remember those businesses who went the extra mile to mitigate wastage.
There is a government indication that in 2024/25 it will be mandatory for businesses to publicly report food waste data.
